Marriage is a gift that requires diligent effort and minute-by-minute attention. It also requires clarity of understanding and an unrelenting commitment to live with and for someone else. Unfortunately, far too many couples struggle inside this union. Yet thankfully, if a couple is willing to set aside their personal preferences, biases, and ambitions to follow God’s prescription, their marriage can do more than just survive – it can thrive.

As a pastor for over 25 years, serving as a single adult pastor and senior pastor, I have had the privilege of walking alongside and counseling hundreds of couples through the Biblical concepts of marriage. Along the way, I have picked up a few helpful tidbits that have proven reliable in influencing couples toward a healthy, fulfilling relationship. Without question, whether I was meeting with nearly-weds, newlyweds, don’t-want-to-be-weds, or seemingly forever wed, I have seen and experienced nearly every condition of marriage in existence. Thus, oftentimes, what I have learned is both best and worst practices. Nonetheless, what I have learned is that the primary reality is that every marriage either thrives or struggles based on the willingness of the couple to follow God’s prescription of marriage within four particular areas – understanding the Biblical basis of marriage, learning the art of appreciating and communicating with one another, managing the blessings of life, and experiencing purity in their intimacy.

On the 4-Keeps Pathway, couples will discover the Biblical foundation of marriage, spend time learning about communication and conflict resolution, discuss money and finances within marriage, and consider the relevance of sexuality in marriage. Each session will require homework and reading, as well as intentional times of in-depth conversation with one another.
