If you’re like I used to be, you might roll your eyes at the mention of a career vision or five-year plan. I don’t know what I want to eat for lunch in an hour, how am I supposed to know what I want my career to look like half a decade from now?! However, taking the time to dig in and create this vision pays off in dividends.

Success does not happen by accident; it happens through intention. Think of it like this: You probably wouldn’t get in a car to go on a road trip without knowing your destination. Your career vision is the destination you want to arrive at. Once you have it, your journey may still have construction, pit stops, and detours, but even when you get totally lost, you’ll know the general direction to go in.

Your Unique Awesomeness Quotient

There is one career success strategy that will help you land dream job offers, get onto the promotion fast track, earn you endless praise, and even boost your salary and bonuses. That strategy is knowing and owning your Unique Awesomeness Quotient (UAQ). It is so important that every step in your Career Glow Up that follows is based on your Unique Awesomeness Quotient or UAQ—plus it’s going to save you time, stress, and maybe even a bit of drama at work.

Your UAQ is a combination of your natural talents, the skills you have developed, and your interests. Of course, in order to leverage your UAQ, you need to know what it is.
