The book is about the Sudan Communist Party, of which I was a member for 18 years 7 of which as a full-time cadre, as a political as well as a social movement that applied Marxism creatively to the realities of the Sudan. The book departs from writing the history of the party focusing on the politics of its Central Committee to reveal the ideas and the faces of the party activists behind its tremendous influence among the working class, farmers, women, students, and intellectuals in the Fifties until the Seventies. It never missed having PMs in every and each parliament democratically elected. The balance it struck between its nationalism and internationalism was adept and responsible. The book pays homage to Abdel Khalig Mahgoub, the party secretary from 1949 to 1971, for his unique intellectual power and leadership skills. The party has not been in a good shape for some time now, but Marxism has become a Sudanese intellectual tradition, nonetheless.
