I have always been a night owl by nature. My body likes to sleep in the morning and no matter how much I try to get into a different routine, I still feel foggy and not with it. I felt seen and validated by reading this book, knowing that I do not have to be the early bird in order to get the worm.

As someone who is an insomniac and an avid night owl, I have always struggled with regulating my eating habits and sticking to routines. Having something that actually explained and put into words something I’ve been struggling with for years, has been such a big help. The chapter explaining balance was the most helpful for me.

This is an affirming guide on why your night owl brain works the way it does. It’s not because of ‘a lack of discipline’ or that you like to sleep in, but it’s because you’re fighting your natural cycle. This book helps you track your most productive hours and create a routine that enhances your energy and focus–minus the guilt! It comes with anecdotes to help make sense of situations that made you feel guilty for being productive later in the day. And examples of workarounds that make it a win-win between you and the people you work with. This is a good gift for shift workers, freelance/remote workers, and those who have ‘unusual’ work hours.

This book helped me to understand a lot about being a night owl. I have always been told I was lazy or had poor time management skills because I function better at night. Reading this helped me to learn about my chronotype, which is a genetic trait that tells your body your “natural sleep/wake preference”. If you want to learn more about the bodies natural working order, this is a great book to read.

There is something incredibly validating about finding a book that tells you something you’ve known for years about yourself. I have never been a morning person. I knew a little about circadian rhythms and had a feeling that mine was centered around a night time cycle, but this helped me not feel like I was crazy. This book helps you honor natural your wake/sleep cycles, and is a love letter to the “night owl.”
