Studies project that by 2026, women in Canada will inherit $900-billion in assets. This responsibility, coupled with an uncertain economic landscape and competing obligations, makes financial planning complex. On March 5, 2025 The Globe and Mail hosted an event focused on financial planning, wellness and navigating tough financial conversations.

Kristine Beese, the CEO of Untangle Money, opened the day with a presentation on the demographic trends and unique financial challenges women in Canada face.

The day’s first panel focused on navigating the common financial scenarios women face through different stages of life. Globe and Mail personal economics reporter, Erica Alini, moderated a discussion with Franceen Bernstein, vice-president and head of financial planning at TD; Eva Sachs, divorce financial consultant; and Elke Rubach, president of Rubach Wealth.

Next, Deanne Gage, reporter with Globe Advisor, moderated a conversation on the health impacts of modern living. The discussion highlighted  the emotional and physical toll that can result from demanding roles and financial responsibilities. Gage was joined by Dr. Woganee Filate, co-founder and MD at Lume Women + Health; Dr. Katy Kamkar, who is a clinical psychologist; and Dr. Vivien Brown, family physician and author of The New Woman’s Guide to Healthy Aging.

Following the panel, Gage moderated a fireside chat with Amy Friesen, founder and CEO of Tea and Toast and Amy D’Aprix, president and founder of LifeBridge Strategies, Inc. The conversation focused on communicating with aging loved ones about care and finances.

The final session of the day was hosted by Saijal Patel, founder and CEO of Saij Elle/Saij Wealth Consulting, who presented a keynote on the psychology of personal finance.
